An outdoor exhibition of photographs entitled “Pilsen 1945 Through the Lens of an Unknown Photographer” was organized by the Office of the Mayor of Pilsen as part of the 65th anniversary since Pilsen was liberated by the US Army.
Thanks to the gracious assistance of Patton Memorial Pilsen curator Ivan Rollinger, 20 panels featuring historical photographs offer a poignant testimony to the atmosphere in Pilsen on May 6, 1945 and the following days. An amateur photographer – whose identity remains unknown – recorded the historical events of 1945 and the liberation of Pilsen for his own private album. Mr. Rollinger discovered the unique album, which was kept in chronological order and included brief descriptions, in a used book store in Pilsen.
Pilsen Mayor Pavel Rödl officially launched the exhibition today. The photographs will be on display at Křižíkový sady park (below the Masné krámy exhibition hall) until May 15. The exhibition was organized as part of the “From D-Day to V-Day” project and is the first event the city has organized for this year’s Liberation Festival.
