Belgian veterans announce Jan Palach Prize winner – for the last time
For the last time, members of the Brotherhood of the Belgian 17th Fusilier Battalion announced the winner of the Jan Palach Prize, a competition they have organized since 1990. The winner of the high school competition, in which contestants must write an essay in French on a subject assigned by the Brotherhood, received a 14-day stay in the French-speaking part of Belgium.
The prize was presented in Pilsen City Hall’s ceremonial hall, where the Belgian veterans were joined by Mayor Martin Baxa and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium. This year just two people entered the competition: Dominika Vyskočilová from the Catholic Secondary School, and Masaryk Grammar School student Jan Bohuslav, who ended up winning the competition. The subject of the essay for the 11th annual competition was “The Role of Memories.” Jan Bohuslav will receive a 14-day stay in the French-speaking part of Belgium.
