Festival celebrating US Army's liberation of Pilsen in full swing on Saturday
The Liberation Festival continues today with a military program behind the Plaza, at Křižíkovy sady park and in front of the Patton Memorial Pilsen on Pobřežní Street, while cultural events will be held on Republic Square, at the Plaza and at the Proluka site.
In the morning the veterans, guests and city officials will remember the end of the war at commemoration services held at Náměstí Míru, Chodské Square and Husova Street.
With the veterans in attendance, Mayor Martin Baxa will be joined by officials from the Brian LaViolette Foundation to grant the first General George S. Patton Scholarship of Honor at Republic Square at 1:15 p.m. On Saturday evening the winners of the “Liberate Pilsen” student adventure game will also be officially announced at Republic Square.
At 6 p.m. the Convoy of Liberty will head down Klatovská Boulevard. The arrival of the historical military vehicles at Republic Square will be followed by a Scottish bagpipe performance and, at 8:50 p.m., a concert by the Yo Yo Band.
