General Patton Museum opens new exhibit on Belgian veterans
Starting from this year’s Liberation Festival, Belgian veterans have their own permanent exhibition at the Patton Museum. The Belgian veterans were joined by Belgian Ambassador Renilde Loeckx and Deputy Mayor Eva Herinková to officially open the exhibit, a panel with photographs and the Belgian Fusiliers’ colors together with a ribbon the City of Pilsen gave its liberators in 1945. Visitors will also be able to get see a map showing the advance of the Belgian 17th Fusilier Battalion, which served with the US First Army from March 5 till June 1, 1945. On July 13, 1945, the Brigade was decorated for its exceptional military service by Supreme Allied Commander General Dwight D. Eisenhower. The exhibit includes period and current photographs, decorations and small objects that the Belgian veterans presented to the Patton Memorial Pilsen.
