Patton Memorial Pilsen - a memorial to people´s fates
Several years ago, two ladies appeared at the Patton Memorial Pilsen and identified their friend, Vladimíra “Vláďa” Hrušková, on one of the large photographs there. Vláďa married U.S. soldier Melton Williams in November 1945 and left for the United States with him. As many as two hundred similar weddings were held at St Bartholomew’s Cathedral in the fall of 1945. Based on information about her photograph, Mrs Williams has visited the museum several times. This year she came to the Liberation Festival with her daughters so she could show the photograph of her with the U.S. soldiers to them.
During her visit she donated a large photograph with the original wedding announcement and period as well as recent photographs of the couple to the museum. Thank you!
