Thanks to the work of a five-member television crew from the U.S. Army Joint Multinational Readiness Center, news from this year’s festival will also reach soldiers abroad. The television crew aims to show the festival atmosphere and unique nature of the entire event to international audiences. It will use the material it filmed in several reports and documentaries.

The winner of the “Liberate Pilsen” game is T. G. Masaryk Legion, repeating their victory from last year. The team was led by commander Ondřej Kovařík, and the privates were David Le, Jan Hajžman, Nguyen Huy Hai, and Martin Saidl. The students received the General Patton helmet challenge cup, and as the grand prize they all get to visit the U.S. base in Grafenwöhr, Bavaria.

The General George S. Patton Scholarship of Honor was officially presented at Republic Square on the afternoon of Saturday, May 5. The founder of the foundation granting the $1,000 scholarship, Doug LaViolette, granted the scholarship to Kristýna Otásková. Along with the scholarship she received a medal inspired by the Medal of Honor, the highest military decoration bestowed by the U.S. government. The medal was presented by Marion Kirkham, the brother of U.S. pilot Virgil Paul Kirkham, who was killed at the end of World War II and in whose honor the scholarship was awarded.

Several years ago, two ladies appeared at the Patton Memorial Pilsen and identified their friend, Vladimíra “Vláďa” Hrušková, on one of the large photographs there. Vláďa married U.S. soldier Melton Williams in November 1945 and left for the United States with him. As many as two hundred similar weddings were held at St Bartholomew’s Cathedral in the fall of 1945. More informations

Dozens of people attended the 1940s Czechoslovak fashion show at Křižíkovy sady park on Friday afternoon. The runway featured women’s and men’s styles from the 1945 season.
